Make a general image search using any identifying feature or writing on the item. Scroll through the images until you find one like yours or similar. Sometimes you may need to try a few different search options but mostly they will turn up something to help you on your way. When you find what you are looking for click on the image to open the associated website and you will usually find all the information you need on the item.
Online trading platform searches to identify coins and stamps
Search the online trading platforms ebay or trademe. Ebay especially has such a range of coins and stamps and it is a rare occasion that you won't find one the same as yours and of course that will give you some idea of value as well. If you can't find a match keep in mind it may mean that your coin or stamp is a scarce one. Always put those aside and get a local dealer to check on them for you.
